Lonely and Gert

Hey!  Did you miss me?  What?  Didn’t even realize I was gone?  I’ve finally moved and I’m pretty much settled in (ish) and ready to get back into illos.   I thought I’d jump in with a contribution to Illustration Friday’s theme, “Lonely”.  This illustration is actually a new rendition of some concepts I was working on many years ago – when I first started working digitally.   I think it fits the theme.

I’m currently working on a picture book manuscript about an imaginative 5 year old, Gertrude Candice, and her dog Tippy.  I’ve done up several concept sketches and think I may have found her groove – I’m pulling in a lot of textures these days, as you can tell.   I’ve started carrying my camera around with me when we are out and about and I find some pretty amazing textures. Gertrude’s hair is textured with a photo layer of a very old stone wall in Old Montreal.  I think it gives it that fiery quality.

It feels so great to be back at it!  See more of my illustration portfolio at www.julieprescesky.com.
