Make an Oil Lantern with an Orange

We tried this project a few months ago with our homelearner’s group. It’ll be a great addition to your summer table, and it’s just cool.  Not to mention it gives off a lovely orange scent. I imagine if you added a few drops of citronella oil, it’ll even keep the mosquitoes away.

Watch the short video to see how it’s done. It does take some patience for the wick to light at first, but then it’s magical. I’ve also experimented with other vegetable oils (canola) and olive is best, it seems.  I tried a really inexpensive canola oil and it wouldn’t light at all. Just FYI.

Experiment with different oils and let me know how it goes in the comments below.
