Music Themed Surface Pattern Design

I’ve been dancing into the world of surface pattern design whilst also brushing up on my watercolour skills. I’ve been watching Shari Blaukopf’s Craftsy video, Sketching the City in Pen, Ink & Watercolor. I really do love her style, and I love urban sketching, but I’d thought I’d play with other subject matter too.

I’ve had a few suggestions from friends on themes to try and this one was from a talented musician who, among her many other contributions to the world, teaches children piano and violin – a woman with much patience. Funny though, she was sure to mention to put a bottle of wine in there. I’m sure there must be a correlation there somewhere.

At some point in the process, I decided it needed some foliage. It feels very spring garden party to me.

And then I brought back the music notes.  No, I do not sight-read. You can probably tell by my little composition. But my children do, so at least I know my lineage is improving with each generation.

If you have a theme you’d like to see me explore with pattern design let me know in the comments.
